About "Reverend of Rocks:"

An Irish Congregational minister traveled west to frontier Oregon in 1852 only to discover that theology didn’t inspire him nearly as much as the geology of the rugged western landscape. He set out to study the earth and teach the scientific wonders of the American West to the uneducated pioneer families. He was praised by many for his passionate enthusiasm and viciously attacked by the church for his many scientific discoveries that supported Darwin’s newly created theory of Evolution.

Sam Allen is 21-year-old journalism student at the University of Oregon. he has been making documentaries since 2004. For his most recent film, Sam has joined forces fellow UO Journalism student Ashley Bontrager. Together they Produced "Reverend of Rocks" in the fall of 2008. The project that took them 200 miles into the desert to tell the inspirational story of one of the most colorful characters in the history of American geology.
